9 Ways to Celebrate Spring

by Christina G. Stevenson | March 17, 2018

The Spring Equinox has been long celebrated as a time of renewal and rebirth. Many cultures around the world celebrate Spring festivals and holidays, such as Passover and Easter around the equinox. At Embrasse-moi, not only are we excited for the new 2018 spring trends, fresh arrivals, and yes, florals (ground breaking, we know), but we are also ready for the Spirit of Spring which means self-care, family love, and embracing nature.

“Spring: A lovely reminder of how beautiful change can truly be.”

Embrace this year’s Spring with these great tips for you, your family, and for Mother Earth. Because no matter how long the winter, SPRING is sure to follow, which is why Embrasse-moi has curated 9 ways to embrace the spirit of Spring:

Establish a Daily Rhythm

Spring is typically a time of renewal and rebirth. Establishing a new rhythm on the Spring Equinox will help you get organized and provide a framework for your day.

Get outside & connect

Take some time to celebrate the new life that surrounds you in nature. Watch the sunrise and/or sunset, go for a walk in the park (we love Mendon Ponds or Ellison Park), or take a bike ride along the Erie Canal.

As you do so, observe all the new life beginning around you.

Park addresses in alphabetical order:

Ellison Park: 395 Richs Dugway Rd, Rochester, NY 14625 Erie Canal: http://www.eriecanal.org Mendon Ponds Park: 95 Douglas Rd, Honeoye Falls, NY 14472 Powder Mills Park: 154 Park Road Pittsford, NY 14534

Plant new life

This is a good time of year to start planning your flowers and gardens. You can start some seeds indoors (like parsley or slow growing vegetables) or get your yard and garden ready for late Spring plantings (when the snow melts, of course).

Bring Spring into your home

Purchase a bouquet of Spring flowers. Refresh and renew your home and body with essential oils. There is nothing like an essential oil diffuser to bring the fresh scents of spring into the home and on your skin.

Lavender, peppermint and lemon are the most common essential oils.

Prepare a family feast

No Spring celebration is really complete without a family meal to go along with the new equinox. For the solstice, celebrate with foods that honour the coming of Spring—eggs, early spring greens, shoots, sprouts, seasonal local produce from the market, local bread and great, great wine.

Have or attend a bonfire. A bonfire is a great way to celebrate the equinox. Tell stories, dance, sing, beat drums, play music, and celebrate the spring.

Read books and do arts & crafts in honour of Spring

Reading Spring books with your kid(s) to help them understand the equinox and how seasons are created from a scientific point of view.

Creating Spring crafts is a great way to welcome in the season. Painting rocks, making hand molds and decorating pot plants are all great ways to not only invite the spirit of Spring, but also a great bonding moment with the kiddos.

Medicate &/or practice yoga

Meditate upon new life and celebrate the change of seasons. On the equinox, day and night, dark and light, are balanced. Meditate and/or practice yoga to create inner peace and balance.

Start something new

Solstices and equinoxes are a great time to let go of the old and begin anew. As the days begin to grow longer and the temperatures begin to warm, people begin to spend more time outdoors. It is a great time to begin something new this year!

Try making a list of everything you want to do this Spring—this can be goals. Pick your top three and slay!

With these 9 ways to celebrate this year’s Spring, not only are you practicing self-care, you are also celebrating family, life and the changes of the seasons!
